About me
My name is Kristi Niemeyer and I have been an Independently Licensed Social Worker for over 20 years. I have specialized in working with the senior population, death/dying and hospice, and for the last 14 years, I have provided mental health and addiction therapy to veterans and their caregivers. I have completed formal training, with supervision, in several evidenced based therapies to address depression, many forms of anxiety, PTSD, trauma related disorders, and chronic pain.
I believe that finding meaning in life, even through suffering, is key to psychological well-being. Together, we’ll explore your values and life goals, and create strategies to align actions with these deeper truths. I would be honored to help you feel a renewed sense of purpose and inner strength to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and meaning.
Explore the therapeutic approaches I can offer:
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a powerful, evidence-based approach that helps individuals build psychological flexibility. Through ACT, you’ll learn how to accept difficult emotions and thoughts so that values aligned actions can be chosen. Instead of avoiding pain or discomfort, ACT encourages you to engage in meaningful activities aligned with your values. By fostering mindfulness and acceptance, ACT helps you live a fuller, more authentic life, even in the presence of challenges.
-
Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Depression (IPT) is a time-limited, evidence-based treatment that focuses on improving interpersonal relationships and communication patterns to help alleviate symptoms of depression. IPT is based on the understanding that difficulties in relationships—such as grief, role transitions, or conflicts—can contribute to or exacerbate depression. Through IPT, clients work to identify and address these issues, enhance their social support, and improve their interpersonal skills.
-
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is an evidence-based treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that helps individuals process and reframe the distressing thoughts and feelings associated with trauma. CPT focuses on identifying and challenging negative thoughts and beliefs related to the traumatic experience, such as feelings of guilt, shame, or helplessness. Through structured sessions, clients learn how to reframe these thoughts, gain a more balanced perspective on the trauma, and reduce the emotional intensity connected to their memories. By addressing unhelpful thought patterns and promoting healthier ways of thinking, CPT empowers individuals to regain control of their lives and move toward healing from trauma
-
Written Exposure Therapy (WET) is a brief, evidence-based treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that focuses on helping individuals process traumatic memories through written expression. In WET, clients are guided to write about their traumatic experiences in detail over several sessions, which allows them to confront the memories in a safe and controlled way. By repeatedly writing about the trauma, individuals begin to reduce the emotional intensity and distress associated with the memories. This therapeutic approach helps individuals gain a clearer understanding of their trauma, process their emotions, and ultimately work toward healing and recovery.
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain is an evidence-based treatment designed to help individuals manage the psychological and emotional aspects of living with chronic pain. CBT-CP focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors that can amplify the experience of pain and negatively impact daily life. By teaching patients techniques like relaxation, mindfulness, and problem-solving skills, CBT-CP helps reduce pain-related distress and improves overall functioning. This therapy also empowers individuals to better cope with pain, enhance their quality of life, and regain control over how they respond to their condition, fostering a more balanced and positive outlook despite chronic pain.
